ms. magazine’s decision regarding an Israeli ad causes controversy.

ms. magazine, which was the origin of the ms. foundation for women, has been caught up in controversy since january because of their decision to not run an Israeli advertisement that features three prominent women in the Israeli government.

their decision not to run the ad has not only affected funding support to ms. magazine, but also to the ms. foundation, even though the ms. foundation is no longer affiliated with them. this reflects a growing trend among major Jewish donors to pull their support of human rights/social justice organizations that do not show Israeli support in the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.

i personally feel that it is unfortunate that the decision of these organizations to not show political support for one side or the other or to show support for Palestinians in the struggle is perceived as “anti-Semitic”. additionally, it has cost human rights and social justice organizations thousands of dollars in potential income (as a great percentage of major donors in New York especially are Jewish) to give to peoples of all backgrounds across the world.
